Glazed and Confused

Hey Guys. Check out the new video tutorial I put up yesterday on Revamping Hardware. That was the 3rd tutorial in the series and here is the finished locker i worked on throughout. From video 1 I used wallpaper decoupage on the drawer and video 2 explained how to glaze and distress furniture and finally video 3 discussed revamping and reusing furniture hardware. I also added a photo of another little piece which I used for the napkin decoupage in video 1 and the hardware update. What do you all think? If you have watched the tutorials and are going to try out any of these techniques, I’d love for you to share them with me. And any questions on any of the tutorials just let me know πŸ™‚

Chest of Gold,Red,Orange,Blue

Finally finished the 3rd Chest of Drawers from the @Kollect delivery. Didnt even have a plan for this one just blindly picked a few colours to go with the wallpaper on drawer 3. While I have the time I’m trying out some of the more unusual colour combos. Some will work and some wont no doubt πŸ˜‚.
New handles and a little distressing around the edges to finish. I used distressing on this piece just to break up the paint blocks. You always know when finished painting whether a piece needs just a little extra something and distressing can be the perfect technique to use in that situation. This brings me to the next video tutorial I’m going to do which is all about glazing and distressing. I was hoping to get it done today but time just got away from me so tomorrow it is. Anyone out there right now looking at your pine furniture and thinking about getting rid if it, please rethink and think about upcycling. Whether you try your hand at it yourself or get a professional to do it, I promise you wont regret it and neither will your wallet πŸ˜‰
This piece is available to buy now πŸ™‚

Two/Triangle Style

We had a little last minute change of plan on these lockers. As part of a big commission these were going to be decoupaged too, but there was a change of heart and the lockers are all the better for it. I’m absolutely in love with these myself and I’m certain the little girl who is getting them will too. I don’t really use geometric designs very often but I may very well be swayed to do some more in the future. And I’m in love with this colour combo. At least I’m not short of fab paint colours at the moment 🀣. Just looking at these is making me happy right now lol. So a run down of the colours.

As I was saying I dont use geometric designs very much. And I actually did really enjoy working on these lockers. The other day when I was in the middle of working on these I went to bed that night and actually dreamed a geometric design for a retro desk I have lol. I had no intentions of anything geometric for it but now I cant get the design out of my head. This actually happens me a lot where I dream of designs in my sleep that I dont think I would ever consider when I’m awake lol. Does this happen to anyone else?
I sprayed the wooden hardware on these lockers with a sparkly white gold. Keep an eye out for my upcoming video tutorials as one if them is going to be about Revamping hardware.

Floral Fancy

I have absolutely found my love for decoupage again. I used it so much in the beginning and then it has always been a big part of my workshops, I think I got a little bored with it. I havent even bought napkins in ages and for anyone that knows me they will be shocked by that news πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. This is the 2nd set of a commission I’m working on so 1 set left to go and guess what…. it’s going to be more decoupage.
I’m finally going to sit down next week and think about doing a couple of videos. The main ones I have been thinking about doing are a decoupage tutorial and a glazing tutorial. I will see how it goes but at least I’m finally thinking about it so thats a start. I always stayed away from online videos mainly because I focused on real life workshops which personally I find is my niche. I love meeting people and spending the day teaching upcycling and always having the craic. Since i work alone i found the workshops just as important for me as anyone coming to them. I’m really looking forward to getting back on the road again, whenever that may be 🀞
I also woke up this morning and got dressed in my work clothes and headed out to the workshop. Turned on the radio and realised it was Saturday πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Now I know every day is the same right now but I’m still taking my weekends off. I promised myself to keep some sort of a routine so its house cleaning day instead 🀣 and then a big long 2km walk 🐩🐩 and definitely clothes that dont have paint on them. Its that kind of day πŸ€ͺ
Have a great Saturday everyone cc

Pretty Perfect

This is part of a commission of 5 lockers and 3 beds. Working away on the lockers but will have to wait for the paint shop to reopen before the beds get the revamp πŸ˜ͺ. I always get asked when Revamping lockers, chests etc to get new hardware and I always reply to let me revamp the hardware on the piece first and then decide if you want to spend the money on new hardware.
99% of the time no new hardware is needed. These were just the usual pine knobs but all they needed was a lick of paint to finish off the locker. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best πŸ˜‰
Anyone who uses napkins for decoupage knows how finicky and frustrating it can be to get them right πŸ˜‚
Knowing this I still went ahead and attempted to use the border on the napkin and try and get it straight right through the 3 drawers and guess what … it went perfectly first time 🀣Thankfully because my patience isnt working to its full extent at the moment lol. It actually feels like forever since I got to do napkin decoupage and i am sooo enjoying it all over again.
Anyone interested in decoupage, where to start and what materials to use then why not join my group on Facebook

There are loads of ideas, tips and tricks and loads of lovely people waiting to help with any upcycling queries. It’s a great place to show off your current projects or even look for inspiration for colours, designs etc..

Jungle Fever

A jungle fun themed locker for a bathroom makeover. I actually love revamping lockers because they are always the best pieces for some napkin decoupage and I do love my napkins 🀣. I got a can of Rustoleum 🎨Coloured Metallic Pink recently so expect many many bright pink handles and knobs πŸ˜‰
How is everyone coping at the moment? It was all going great until I ran out of some necessary materials so i am having to improvise a little at the moment. I have some commissions in that i have half finished but cant finish now because I need paint πŸ˜‚. Even with the 40 odd tins I have already I still need more 🎨
Nevertheless I still have plenty of painting to keep me occupied and I definitely have enough napkins for decoupage to last me until I’m 80 πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
This was actually another piece from the delivery. There were 3 chests and 1 locker. I kind of forgot about the locker because the workshop got so full it ended up hidden behind bigger pieces. This was pine before the revamp and again I have to reiterate that pieces like this do not belong in landfill. This took me one day to revamp. Cleaned, primed, painted, decoupaged and new hardware sprayed and put back on. A lot of us have that time on our hands now and definitely have a locker that could do with a little makeover. Feel free to get in touch if you would like help on taking the first steps to give something a little revamp. .

Corona Virus Affected Workshops

Update on upcoming workshops.
All workshops until May have now been postponed. They will be or have been rescheduled. Anyone booked in has been contacted by email. Any workshops with confirmed dates are still open for bookings through the Events tab and hopefully will go ahead. I will of course be keeping an eye and if anything changes nearer the time i will update. Stay safe everyone, we can get through this one paintbrush at a time xx

Not Too Shabby

And here is the newly revamped bedroom set. Shabby chic’d within an inch of its life πŸ‘Œ More glaze again 😊. I really need to do a glaze demo πŸ™ˆ
I must admit the bed took the good out of me a few times. Stubborn me refuses to tape up and much prefers to paint freehand lines. Then I get frustrated when it wont go my way and i have no one to blame only myself πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Of course I will learn no lesson here at all. I somehow forgot to take the before pics for the lockers which is unusual for me as I have a sign up in my workshop to remind me πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
I cant believe how productive I’ve been this week. Just makes me realise how much I normally procrastinate when I can head off to the diy/paint shops and chat for half the day πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆ

Dressed in Red

I love a brave soul who goes for red. This Is a pretty drastic revamp, but if i do say so myself it turned out amazing. My client knew exactly what she wanted from the very start. Red, distressed and black glaze and that’s exactly what she got. I tried a new red from Colourtrend Paints called 🎨Siren and oh my it is just fabulous. I dont actually talk about glaze too much which is odd since I use it a lot. I always have a stock of Black, Brown and White ready made glazes from General Finishes which I get from the The Carpentry Store. Maybe I might do a little tutorial on glazing soon if things get quiet for me. For the moment though I’m up to my eyes in commissions so I’m lucky and happy and covered in paint as always 🀣
How fab is the bottom of the dresser on it’s own too ❀. I stained the top of this part using a mixture of diff colour stains just to get something unusual. It’s hard to see in the photos but it’s a beautiful contrast of dark and red wood with a hint of black going through it. I’m really trying to stay out of the workshop this weekend as I want to keep some sort of routine. Even though there is nothing to do I dont want to end up working 7 days just to keep the boredom at bay. I’ll just get fed up after a while and that’s the last thing I want to happen as the paint brush is the only thing keeping me sane at the moment, as I’m sure it is for a lot of us x

Brown Is The New Black

This is another piece that I actually have finished for a while. The workshop was just 2 full to move everything to take photos. It’s still full but I finally did some heavyweight moving and tidying πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I saw this beautiful material in Fabric Outlet in Newbridge and fell in love with it. Now I did actually think it was black at the time but it was brown when I got home πŸ€”. Nevertheless I just knew it was made for this sideboard. I turned the fabric around for the second drawer and used the most fabulous colour from @ColourtrendPaints called 🎨November Storms. How do people feel around brown paint? I must admit I’m a total convert. I started off using @Farrowandball 🎨Mahogany last year and fell in love and not only that I managed to convert a lot of people in my workshops too.
Brown is the new Black. You heard it here first πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
